Leading juveniles - ProvisoFiled on 6 Sep 2007 @ 11:14
Graham Richards begins a series highlighting the top two-year-olds of 2007 Henrythenavigator | Kingsgate Native | Myboycharlie | New Approach | Proviso | Raven's Pass | Rio De La Plata | Winker Watson | Zarkava | PROVISO (8 Feb 2005) b fDansili – Binche (USA) (Woodman (USA)) A daughter of Dansili, Proviso’s dam has a ten-furlong pedigree. Following two outings at Deauville, she has displayed enough ability to suggest she will make up into a top-class three-year-old over a mile to ten-furlongs. Making her debut over seven-furlongs, she ran away from a field of unraced fillies, winning impressively by four lengths. The sixth home, beaten eleven lengths, has subsequently won her maiden. Her second run came in the Group Three Prix du Calvados - Haras des Capucines again over seven-furlongs. English challenger Laureldean Gale, who had won her maiden impressively, supplied the principal opposition. As they broke from the stalls, Proviso was held up just behind the leaders. Pushed along at halfway she quickened two-furlongs from home; leading a furlong and a half from the finish, she ran on with great determination and style. Laureldean Gale produced a dangerous looking run a furlong from home, momentarily looking as though she could win. However, Proviso responded well and won cosily under a hands and heels ride. We now know she handles both good and soft ground. She has won on a seven-furlong straight course, suggesting Newmarket in 2007 will not provide a problem. Furthermore, she was producing her best form at the end of her race. I believe this is always a good sign for the future and indicates she was still learning about racing. She is reportedly coming over for the Meon Valley Fillies Mile at Ascot, indicating the high regard she is held in.
