Knavesmire opener

Passage Of Time a confident pick

I always go to the York Spring meeting, there is something about the place-the racing is good ,the course is immaculate and always attracts a big crowd. I used to stay in The Chase Hotel which overlooks the course, it is now owned by a large consortium and for racegoers is in a prime position with facilities second to none, and drivers to take you round to the track. For those wishing a spot of post race exercise it is an easy walk across the Knavesmire and into the Hotel rear garden. Well worth booking!

When my father took me racing to York many years ago I was always intrigued by those men selling small brown envelopes for ten shillings which named a winner of the big race, and in later years a tall gent called 'tiny tim' would attract a crowd, who would place pound notes on envelopes with a winner supposedly in each.

The days of those 'tipsters'who appeared on many of the Northern tracks has disappeared, anyway they would probably get mugged in this day and age.

On to business for day one,and I have three to mention fom the gallops.

Henry Cecil should win The Musidora with PASSAGE OF TIME. She has had a slight setback but goes to post with confidence behind her. It will be good to see Henry greet her back into the winners enclosure.

Jeremy Noseda could well be on the board with the highly talented but injury prone SOLDIERS TALE. There has been nothing wrong with his preparation for this race and he should go very close.

In the 5.00 I will be having a few shillings each way on Michael Bells SPICE ROUTE. This one is really going well at the moment and should be the order of some interest in early morning betting lists.

Maybe I'll put him in my 'brown envelope' and hope to attract more interest on Thursday!!!

Speaking of Spice Route I'll probably have a curry on Wednesday evening, York has some fine Indian Restaraunts which are moderately busy in midweek but impossible at the weekends especially on racedays.

Will be back on Thursday morning if surviving day one.
