Workwatcher's report Wednesday 25 AprilFiled on 25 Apr 2007 @ 07:24
A busy week with the run up to the Guineas Festival here at HQ in 10 days timeJeremy Noseda will be hoping his filly Sander Camillo will have recovered after her run in The Nell Gwyn last week. She was 'not the same horse' and was subsequently found to be very stiff. Dettori had reported that he felt she was wrong during the race. Since The Nell Gwyn she has had extensive treatment at home and the perfectionist Noseda will only send her to post if fully happy. Should she get to the Guineas I would not oppose her beacause it was an heroic run at Newmarket last time despite her ailments. The fact that the major bookmakers have let her drift to 6/1 in places may help the cause. On the 2000 Guineas front local trainer Geoff Huffer is adamant his colt Cockney Rebel will be a big runner. The colt had scoped slightly dirty prior to The Craven Stakes and just as a precaution did Geoff decide to by-pass the race and go straight for the big one. I spoke to Geoff, who has trained some good horses in his career including Persian Heights - he reports that the ground being very firm at HQ has forced him to give his star colt a racecourse gallop at Lingfield today. Cockney Rebel may be good each way value at 25/1 - his experienced handler rates him as one of the best he has ever trained. My previous list of unexposed sorts threw up a gem at Newbury last Friday when Folk Opera duly obliged for us at 9/2. Keep an eye on those unexposed animals. This weekend the feature events are at Sandown on Saturday. Back next Wednesday in time for the Guineas Festival.
