Average rises 22% as Magnier swoops for top lot

The Goffs Orby Sale goy off to a strong start on Monday with Redmondstown Stud’s Galileo own brother to Group 1 performers Cuis Ghaire and Scintillula (Lot 19) topping proceedings when being knocked down at €1,500,000 to MV Magnier – purchaser of leading Classic contender Ol’ Man River at this sale last year.

Sold for €580,000 at last season's Arc Sale, he is a half brother to five winners, one of them Listed-placed, out of the Listed-placed Acatenango mare Estefania. She in turn is a half sister to the Listed winner Emporio, from the family of Group One winner Elle Danzig.

Halling is quietly having a good season, with this first Group One winner of the year joining Group winners Cavalryman and Certerarch for earnings just shy of £2m, with an AEI of 1.6.

Strong trade continued at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale on Wednesday's second session. The two day aggregate of €7,427,000 was up 8% on 2013 and the average of €18,708 and median of €14,653 were up 28% and 25% respectively despite 123 less lots catalogued in 2014.
