Ad Valorem (USA)

Danzig - Classy Women, by Relaunch
Bay, foaled 2002
Breeder: Calumet Farm

Other sons of Danzig at stud: Anabaa, Antonius Pius, Bertolini, Country Reel, Elnadim, Fath, Golden Snake, Green Desert, Iron Mask, Ishiguru, Librettist, Lil's Boy, Modigliani, Nuclear Freeze, Perugino, Zieten.

Royal Ascot winner

This son of Danzig out of a world record breaker at five and a half furlongs is one of four Group 1 winners retiring to Coolmore in 2007, and he lived up exactly to his pedigree when winning at that level at six furlongs as a two-year-old (in the Middle Park) and over a mile at four (in the Queen Anne).

He had won all three of his starts at two, but only managed a second and a third from five outings at three. They were,
though, in the St. James’s Palace (to Shamardal) and in the Sussex (to Proclamation and Soviet Song), so not exactly a failure.

Ad Valorem’s most important victory, in the Queen Anne Stakes as a four-year-old, owed a lot to the stewards’ lenient interpretation of the rules about interference as many observers thought that Court Masterpiece was denied a winning run by Ad Valorem’s action in coming off a straight line, an action not corrected until too late, but the result is now in the record book for ever. A transatlantic trip resulted in third place in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile and an unplaced run in the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Middle Park winners have had a very good record at stud, and as Ad Valorem’s racing talents were so obviously in accordance with the expectations of his sire line, he will find plenty of favour with breeders. His brother Designer
had already advertised that impression when running third in the Middle Park in1997, and his three-parts sister, Petite
Princess, who was third in the Curragh Stakes, has bred four winners including the multiple Grade 3 winner Raylene.
There are no major sires close up in the family, but with Danzig as a daddy, Ad Valorem may well become one.
