New sires - DarsiFiled on 5 Jan 2007 @ 13:43
New sires for 2007 | New sires for 2008 | Fee tables - all sires Darsi (FR)Polish Precedent - Darashandeh, by Darshaan It is a sad state of affairs when Derby winners are packed off to a career as National Hunt sires immediately they retire and even more so when it is a French Derby winner, since the distance of that race has been reduced to 2100 metres. Stamina will always play a large part in the production of good thoroughbred racehorses and we should be mindful of that fact. There is even less reason for this horse to be regarded as solely a National Hunt sire: his own sire was a champion miler who has already got the top milers Rakti and Court Masterpiece, among others, to his credit. Bred from an old Boussac family and raced in France by the Aga Khan, Darsi also won a 2500 metres contest at Chantilly by two lengths and a 1600 metres maiden as a two-year-old. He ran in the Irish Derby, but could only finish fifth to Dylan Thomas. However, in his major French victory, although it was considered a rather sub-standard field, such notable performers as Aussie Rules, Best Name and Olympian Odyssey finished behind him. The Aga Khan breds should never be underestimated and this fellow could well surprise his critics. Race record
