Pedigree combining speed and stamina in equal amounts

Anyone looking for a pedigree likely to produce a good sire could look no further than that of Desideratum. By the great Darshaan, he is out of the unraced Rainbow Quest mare Desired, herself a half-sister to the successful sires Medaaly (Group 1Racing Post Trophy) and Charnwood Forest (Group 2 Challenge Stakes, Queen Anne Stakes, second in Group 1 Lockinge, Sussex and St. James’s Palace Stakes) and out of the own sister to successful sire Fort Wood, Dance of Leaves.

She, of course, is in turn out of the great runner and sire producer Fall Aspen, dam of 13 winners, eight of them black type with four at the highest level. Her other progeny include Hamas (July Cup), Timber Country (Champion Juvenile) ,Elle Seule, Bianconi and Colorado Dancer, dam of Dubai Millenium.

Elle Seule has bred four black type winners, including Classic winner Mehthaaf and successful sire Elnadim (July Cup), sire of Wi Dud and Caldra in 2006.

Desideratum himself has done his bit for the family. He was never out of the frame in his seven starts, and he won four of them. He was second on his only start at two, then at three collected the Group 3 Prix du Lys at Longchamp and the Listed Prix de l’Avre, both over 2400 metres.

He ran second to the very smart Scorpion in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris and fourth in the Group 2 Prix Noailles and earned a Timeform rating of 118.

With his ability and a pedigree which combines speed and stamina in equal amounts, he deserves good patronage from breeders.
