Effective miler in France

Diamond Green won three consecutive races as a juvenile, the last of them the Group 3 Prix La Rochette which he won by two and a half lengths, but he was even more impressive in defeat the following year, finishing runner up in three Group 1 contests, namely the Poule d’Essai des
Poulains, the St. James’s Palace Stakes and the Prix du Moulin. He was not seen out much after that, and only once showed similar form, when second in La Coupe (Group 3) at four. He contested Grade 1 events in North America in 2006 but made little impression.

At his peak, he was a high-class performer over a mile, and he retires to Ballyhane at a time when any son of Green Desert is going to attract breeders after the success of Invincible Spirit, Cape Cross, Desert Style and Volksraad, to name but a few, so he will get his chances to succeed.

His dam Diamonaka was a winner and Group 2 and 3 placed in France and she has also produced Diamilina, winner at Group 2 and 3 level and second in the Prix Vermeille and the Group 3 victress Diamonixa. She herself is a half sister to the high class Diamond Mix (Group 2 Prix Greffulhe), Diamond Dance (Group 3 Prix Penelope), Diasilixa (Group 3 Prix de Royaumont) and the black type placed pair Diamond For King and Diamoona, and their dam Diamond Seal was a Listed winner and placed in Ireland before her outstanding success as a broodmare.

So plenty of racing talent in the family in recent years, although the only sire to feature under the first four dams is Irish 2000 Guineas victor Pampapaul.

Given the level of high level success achieved by Diamond Green’s family when mated with Linamix, he could be a very interesting horse for owners of Linamix mares to see if the recipe works in reverse.
