Not too many of Elusive double’s illustrious family have distinguished themselves as juveniles, but he scored twice from four runs in his first season, most notably in the Listed Tyros Stakes over seven furlongs at Leopardstown. He finished third, three lengths behind no less a horse than Oratoiro in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes, with Democratic Deficit splitting the pair. His first three races were all on firm or good to firm going, which seemed to suit him admirably. On yielding going in the National Stakes he finished sixth, ten and a half lengths behind Dubawi.

The race chosen for his debut at three was the Group 3 Tetrarch Stakes over the same distance, seven furlongs, as all his other outings, but this time on heavy going he finished eight lengths behind runaway winner Indesatchel. Whether his efforts on this type of going had an adverse affect is not clear, but certainly in his remaining four races that year and one more at four, he never showed anything like his early form.

However, he stems from an excellent family, one for long nurtured at Moyglare Stud. His grandam Latest Chapter is a half-sister to the Belmont Stakes winner Go and Go, and their dam is in turn a half-sister to the late lamented Melbourne Cup victor Media Puzzle and the top miler Refuse to Bend.
