New sires for 2008 - Dutch ArtFiled on 18 Dec 2007 @ 16:49
New sires for 2007 | New sires for 2008 | Fee tables - all sires Dutch Art (GB)Medicean - Halland Park Lass, by Spectrum Unlucky at three, but a dual Group One winner at twoMedicean, with Street Cry, was Machiavellian’s best son on the racetrack and for a late-maturing type – he won the Lockinge, the Queen Anne and the Eclipse as a four-year-old – he has proved that he gets stock that perform well early in their careers. Dutch Art, who retires to Cheveley Park Stud to stand alongside his sire, is the best of these to date. His trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam was frustrated that Dutch Art was never able to get his head in front as a three-year-old despite a number of high class performances in defeat. As an unbeaten juvenile though, Dutch Art had performed well over a long season that saw two conclusive Group One wins.
His trainer was frustrated he never won at three
He won at Windsor on debut before heading to Royal Ascot where he took the Group Two Norfolk Stakes, beating Ascot specialist Hoh Mike. A trip to Deauville followed with a Group One win in the Prix Morny, beating Magic America by a length in an impressive effort. Better was to come in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket, which saw 11 rivals despatched with ease. The Greenham Stakes at Newbury the following April was the first time Dutch Art had ventured beyond six furlongs, and he finished second to Major Cadeaux in an inconclusive run. The outcome of the 2000 Guineas bolstered the trainer’s view that he did stay further, with Dutch Art ‘winning’ the race on the far side of the track, two and a quarter lengths behind the winner Cockney Rebel on the stands side. Kept to a mile for the St James’s Palace Stakes, Dutch Art finished fourth, one of only two runs where he was out of the frame. Returned to a sprint trip, Dutch Art finished second in the July Cup in a fine run behind the sensational winner Sakhee’s Secret, and again travelled to Deauville, where he was second to track specialist Marchand D’Or who was winning his second Prix Maurice de Gheest. A final run in the Prix de la Foret saw an uncharacteristically poor effort from Dutch Art when unplaced behind Toylsome on soft ground. Dutch Art’s dam Halland Park Lass raced but thrice, and finished last on each occasion. She is, though, from a good family, her dam Palacegate Episode being a Group Three-winning half sister to two other stakes winners. Palacegate Episode produced a Group Three winner in King Quantas when mated with Danehill. Her Specrum daughter Halland Park Lass sold for 12,000 gns in the Tattersalls December Sale; re-offered in 2006 after her son’s juvenile campaign she fetched 710,000 guineas. Race record
