New sires for 2008 - LawmanFiled on 17 Dec 2007 @ 15:40
New sires for 2007 | New sires for 2008 | Fee tables - all sires Lawman (FR)Invincible Spirit - Laramie, by Gulch How good a performer was Lawman? When allowed to dictate terms from the front, he was very good indeed, but a career shortened by an infection leave a number of questions unanswered. He came into the Prix du Jockey Club on the back of a win in the Prix de Guiche whish saw him sent off the 4-1 joint favourite in an open field of 20 that lacked an obvious superstar. Given a peach of a ride by Dettori – who had won at Epsom on Authorized the previous day – Lawman bowled along in front, setting a steady gallop before Dettori wound up the pace in the final furlong, winning by a length and a half.
How good a performer was Lawman?
The bare form looks strong with Literato in second – an unbeaten sequence culminating in the Group One Champion Stakes was to follow for him; Shamdinan, a subsequent Arlington Grade One winner, in third; and later Group One Grand Prix de Paris winner Zambezi Sun in fourth. Would Lawman have beaten these again in a more truly run race? That question was to remain unanswered. Lawman was dropped in trip to win the Prix Jean Prat over a mile next time out, winning well with a blinding burst of acceleration to account for a field that lacked some strength. His last run ended in defeat by Manduro at Deauville in a race where he was unable to dictate terms. Infection kept him off the track until it was too late for an autumn campaign that could have settled questions about his true ability. Lawman is form the first crop of the Irish National Stud’s Invincible Spirit, a son of Green Desert who had a record 35 individual juvenile winners in his first racing crop. Invincible Spirit and Green Desert were sprinters, but Cape Cross and Desert Style are both stallion sons of Green Desert able to get high class middle distance performers. Lawman’s dam is an influence for stamina from a staying family. She has produced three Pattern winners from her first five foals, including Prix de Diane winner Latice and Prix du Palais-Royal winner Satri, all from relatively inexpensive stallions. Race record
