Rail Link (GB)

Dansili - Docklands, by Theatrical
Bay, foaled 2003.
Breeder: Juddmonte Farms.
Other sons of Dansili at stud: Strategic Prince

Showed the blistering acceleration typical of his sire

Unraced as a juvenile, Rail Link recorded five wins from seven starts in his short career and was unbeaten in four starts in Group company. Trained by Andre Fabre, Khalid Abdulla’s homebred broke his maiden at the third attempt with an easy two length win at Saint-Cloud in May. Another easy win followed, in the Group Three Prix de Lys, where subsequent Group One winners Sudan and Prince Flori were in his slipstream.

The Group One Grand Prix de Paris saw another high-class field despatched, with future Breeders’ Cup winner Red Rocks two lengths adrift and Sudan and Grand Couturier further back. The Prix Niel followed, with Youmzain – second twice to Dylan Thomas the following year – heading the beaten horses home.

Rail Link is an Arc winning son of Dansili

The Arc saw Rail Link’s best effort of all. Sent off behind the hot favourite, Japanese superstar Deep Impact, Rail Link showed scorching acceleration so typical of the progeny of Dansili to account for Pride, Deep Impact and Hurricane Run. That was to be his last start, as although he re-entered training he was never to race at four.

Rail Link’s dam Docklands is has also produced the high class Chelsea Manor. The family is a good one, with Rail Link’s third dam Golden Alibi, a $1,100,000 yearling in 1979, closely related to the great racemare Dahlia. Her daughter Dockage was a Listed winner in France, and she has produced the July Stakes winner Wharf and Linda’s Lad’s dam Colza.

Juddmonte’s homebred stallion Dansili is quickly making a real mark, with the likes of Price Tag, Proviso, Passage Of Time, Strategic Prince – who retires to Coolmore this season – and Zambezi Sun amongst his standard bearers. His fee has risen from £8,000 in 2001 to £75,000 in 2008, making him the second most expensive British-based stallion behind Pivotal. Rail Link, at £12,500, looks sure to be a popular value alternative to his sire.
