Mill Reef Stakes winner retires to Rathasker Stud

A good advertisement for his talented sire and now stud companion, Mujadil, Galeota won three of his six starts at two, including the Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes.

Good as that victory was, he turned in an even better performance at Epsom the following year when he gave 9lbs and a beating to subsequent Group 1 scorer Goodricke. He did it again when going down by only a neck to international champion sprinter Cape of Good Hope in the
Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot. The colt had also run third in the Greenham Stakes to Indesatchel.

His sire Mujadil has been very successful, returning high percentages of both runners to foals and winners to runners. He has also delivered plenty of quality, although no sire sons as yet. However, Mujadil’s brother, Fruits of Love, has made an encouraging start to his stud career.

Galeota’s female family is a prolific producer of winners: his dam, by Statoblest, who is a much more successful broodmare sire than generally recognised, and a juvenile winner herself, has bred two other winners, including his sister Vermilliann, a winner twice at two.

The next dam bred seven winners, among them the Group 3 scorer Pipe Major, and the third dam delivered five, four of them black type, most notably Insatiable, a multiple Group winner and Group 1 placed and the joint top-rated older horse in England in 1998 over 9.5 to 10.5 furlongs.

It is fitting that Galeota should stand at Maurice Burns’ as his fourth dam Café au Lait is the ancestress of many Burns family winners; he is a typically tough product of this family.
