Dual French Group One winner for Godolphin

At first glance, a high class miler by Danzig would be any breeder’s ideal, given the right mare, and certainly the dual Group 1 winner Librettist would fit the bill.

However, there are one or two questions to be answered first. Although a winner of two of his three starts at two, Librettist had to miss the whole of the next season for one reason or another. He made up for that in no uncertain style by giving Godolphin a great boost in 2006, when their racing fortunes were anything but good, with his two top level successes.

Danzig, as we know, is a great sire of sires, with such as Danehill, Green Desert, Chief’s Crown, Anabaa and Polish Precedent to his credit, to mention just a very few. But Librettist is very closely related to Agnes World, a Danzig half-brother to his dam, who was a brilliant racehorse but has so far failed to live up to expectations as a progenitor of good horses.

His half-brother Dubai Destination was also a top level miler, but we shall not see his offspring on the racecourse until after mares have been booked. Dubai Destination’s yearlings, were, however, very well received by the market, so with any luck he should do well.

One could have had the same sort of reservations about Noverre after his three-parts brother Arazi proved less than a roaring success, but he seems to have proved already to be a better horse, and Librettist could do the same here.

Librettist’s second, third and fourth dams were all high class black type performers near the top of their generations, so he has plenty of class behind him. He already has a double dose of Northern Dancer in his pedigree, but one of them is in the fifth generation, so that should not be a problem. The presence of Alleged is always a bonus and he certainly has not blunted the speed of the family.
