Majestic Missile (IRE)

Royal Applause - Tshusick, by Dancing Brave
Bay, foaled 2001
Breeder: Victor Stud Brendan Cummins And Oliver O'Connor
Other sons of Royal Applause at stud: Acclamation

Leading five-furlong specialist

Surprisingly, Majestic Missile is only the second son of his sire to retire to stud in England or Ireland, the other being Rathbarry Stud’s Acclamation, whose first yearlings created a favourable impression last autumn.

Royal Applause, despite being a son of the disappointing Waajib, has consistently turned in very respectable runners to foals and winners to runners percentages and has got plenty of class performers too, with the dual Grade 1 winner Ticker Tape top of the list. He himself was an admirable racehorse, winning nine races including the Haydock Park Sprint Cup and the Middle Park Stakes.

Majestic Missile was one of the best five-furlong specialists in training for four consecutive seasons, but after his two Group 3 successes among his four victories at two, it took him to his final year to add another pattern win, this in the Prix du Petit-Couvert as a five-year-old.

He did not get in the frame in his three starts at three, a characteristic dip in form associated with many good sprinters. He won a Listed contest at four and gained five stakes places, most notably when third in the Nunthorpe to La Cucaracha.

Majestic Missile’s family has produced a few high class sprinters: his dam’s half-brother Informant won the Taby Open Sprint, and his fourth dam bred the very smart performer and sire Forzando, recently retired from a long and productive stud career. She is also the grandam of one
of the most consistent and durable speedsters in Europe in the shape of Lucky Strike, winner of 16 races, including the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot, in Germany and France to the end of last year.

It is difficult to imagine that Majestic Missile will not succeed as a sire, especially given that he has gone to a stud which excels at promoting fast and precocious horses.
