Good racehorses do occasionally emerge from the most surprising backgrounds, and certainly Boozy, dam of Polar Impact, is one such. She won three races at two and three including the Phoenix Flying Five and was placed in such high class sprints as the Palace House Stakes, the Trafalgar House Sprint and the Molecomb. As she was bred by a sprinter from an unplaced mare by High Line, the kind of recipe which usually leads to disaster (although, to be fair, Absalom carried more staying blood than his racecourse performance would have indicated), this was unusual enough, but the rest of her family would hardly have given rise to expectations of such talent.

Boozy is also a successful broodmare in terms of numbers of winners, having so far delivered five winners from six runners, although nothing approaching her own ability. Polar Impact has certainly worked hard for his living, running 42 times in England and Spain for seven wins and 16 places. He was placed at two, won his debut race over five furlongs in April of his three-year-old year and raced frequently thereafter. He travelled to Spain to win three consecutive races in 2003, returned to collect again at Windsor and then returned again to Spain to gain a victory and two places at Mijas in 2004 and another two places in 2005 at the same course.

His three-parts sister Pintle, by Pivotal, won six races, whereas his own sister Skylark only won once, as a five-year-old. So it is anybody’s guess which way Polar Impact will go, although it is unlikely he will get the chance to become another Pivotal.
