Arch, a son of Kris S., is the sire of last season’s July Cup and Golden Jubilee Stakes winner Les Arcs, but that was not the first leading performer he had had to represent him in these islands, as Montgomery’s Arch, winner of the Richmond Stakes and third in the Dewhurst a few seasons ago, is also by him, as are Irish Listed winner and Group 3 placed Arch Rebel and Park Stakes victor Arch Swing.

Prince Arch, although foaled in the USA, comes from an old British family cultivated by Hue Williams’s, his third dam Royal Saint being an own sister to Oaks heroine Altesse Royale.

His dam is a half-sister to the dam of Grade 1 winner and Irish Guineas third Luas Line and also to the very useful Intimate Guest, winner of the May Hill Stakes and now breeding black type winners herself.

Prince Arch won six races at two, three and four, including the Grade 1 Gulfstream Park Breeders’ Cup Handicap, where he set a new course record for 11 furlongs, and the Grade 3 Jefferson Cup at Churchill Downs, where he beat Kitten’s Joy by a head. It was his misfortune to be a contemporary of that horse, as he finished third to him in the Grade 3 Virginia Derby and second to him twice, in the Grade 3 Crown Royal American Turf, also at Churchill Downs, and the Grade 3 Palm Beach Stakes. Prince Arch travelled to Dubai to run in the Sheema Classic, finishing in sixth place but only three lengths behind Phoenix Reach.

After the successes of both Arch and Kris S. (sire of Kris Kin, Dr. Fong, etc.) and his predominantly European pedigree, Prince Arch is a very interesting addition to the stallion ranks and we should hear more of him.
