Linamix - Coraline, by Sadler's Wells
Grey, foaled 2001
Breeder: Juddmonte Farms
Other sons of Linamix at stud: Amilynx, Fair Mix, Fragrant Mix, Lord Du Sud, Martaline, Slickly.

Leading stayer with plenty of speed in his family

The top miler Linamix has been one of the most potent influences in European, notably French, breeding over the last dozen years or so. Under the management of the late Jean-Luc Lagardere he stood head and shoulders above any other French based sire and it is fitting that he has now passed into the hands of another great owner breeder, the Aga Khan.

Several of his sons are already at stud, but it is too early to judge their merit as sires yet. However, the addition of another high class representative can be no bad thing. Linamix is actually from the Northern Dancer sire line but, uncommonly, through Lyphard, his great grandsire. As his dam is by the great champion Sadler’s Wells, Linamix therefore already carries two lines of the Canadian wonder, but he is hardly in a minority these days.

His brother, the multiple Group winner Martaline, has proved very popular in France in the last two seasons and we shall see his first yearlings this year. The pair come, of course, from the wonderful Juddmonte family of Sorbus, whose descendants continue to excel on the course and at stud. Their dam is a half-sister to the dam of the flying Oasis Dream, whose first runners are so eagerly awaited this year, and a full sister to Irish Oaks winner Wemyss Bight, dam of the multiple Group/Grade 1 winner Beat Hollow whose first crop created such a favourable impression on the racecourse last year.

Apart from his outstanding pedigree, Reefscape can boast an excellent race record. His talent lay in the unfashionable business of staying, but it takes a special horse to amass the kind of results he achieved. He won the Group 1 Prix du Cadran, the Prix Chaudenay and the Prix Gladiateur, was runner-up in the Ascot Gold Cup (to Yeats), the Prix Royal Oak, the Prix Ganay and the Prix de
Lutece, and third in the Coronation Cup, the Prix Vicomtesse Vigier and the Prix de Barbeville.

Despite his own particular aptitude, there is plenty of speed in his family and breeders should not be deceived into thinking that he could not pass any of it on.
