In a generally subdued European National Hunt market, Arqana's Summer Sale held its own at Saint-Cloud on Thursday, with the aggregate turnover reaching € 3,772,000, a decrease of only 7.4 % on the 2007 figures.

The Inglis Australian Breeding Stock Sale on Sunday saw a Southern Hemisphere record for a thoroughbred sold at auction when Danehill mare Milanova sold for $5million as part of the Tyreel Stud Reduction.

A son of Presenting from Jimmy Murphy's Redpender Stud was the top lot of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale held in a new three day format for the first time this year.

Margaret O'Toole went to €255,000 for the sale topper and was also responsible for several more high priced stores, including geldings by Kayf Tara, lot 212 for €160,000 and by Flemensfirth, lot 357 for €155,000.

The William Inglis Australian Select Weanling Sale concluded today with the average rising further on yesterday’s strong figure.

Overall, the Select Weanling Sale generated turnover of almost $7.7million. The average rose to $33,732 by the conclusion of the Select sale, representing a 31% climb on the Select Weanling Sale from 2007.

The bay filly, whose three eighths in :33 2/5 on Sunday was the sale’s co-fastest at the distance, is out of Long Gone Lady, by All Gone, and is a half sister to stakes placed Britten’s Beauty.

Hip No. 263, a colt by Yonaguska consigned by Paul Sharp, Agent, went to Joseph Brocklebank, Agent for Repole Stable for $210,000 to top the opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2008 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age. The dark bay or brown colt, a half brother to Illinois Derby (G2) winner Recpaturetheglory, is out of stakes placed Cold Awakening, by Dehere. He sped a quarter in :21 3/5 at the Under Tack Show.

Average declines slightly in a tight market

Goffs Land Rover & June National Hunt Sale drew to a close on Thursday with a good moving son of Flemensfirth (Lot 723) leading proceedings when purchased by Fethard Bloodstock for €25,000. The Clonbur House consigned three-year-old is out of a Supreme Leader dam from the family of Grade One winning Novice Chaser Southern Vic. Aidan O’Ryan later paid €19,000 for a filly by French sire Take Risks out of a half sister to Talina’s Law who was twice a Listed winning hurdler.

A filly by Lion Heart topped the third and final session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast today.

Local horsewoman Debbie Newham nabbed the filly for the General Sale record when she went to $70,000 to secure the Furlong Stud offering.

Solid trade on the second day of Goffs Land Rover Sale was once again capped by a gelding from the first crop of sire Milan. Kevin Ross went to €70,000 to secure the Summerhill-consigned three year old (Lot 393) out of thirteen time winning mare Tri Folene, who was also placed in the Kim Muir Chase at Cheltenham.

73% clearance rate as middle market remains tough

A gorgeous filly by Australia's leading sire Encosta de Lago today topped the second and final select session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

A good looking Milan gelding (Lot 199) out of a Be My Native half sister to Grade One placed hurdler Kildare topped the opening session of the Goffs Land Rover Sale when knocked down to agent Aiden Murphy for €92,000. The three year old was consigned by Ballincurrig House Stud.

Hong Kong based Deborah Ho secured She Will Be Loved at the third session of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Wednesday. Bidding against Patinack Farm, Ho went to $2.4 million to secure the Group winning Strategic mare who was confirmed to be carrying a colt by super sire Redoute's Choice.

Champion race mare Divine Madonna has made a Magic Millions record price of $2.7 million at the National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast.

The four time Group One winner brought the sales complex to a standstill when she entered the ring at approximately 12.40pm. A few minutes later she left the ring with the state and all time Magic Millions record having been knocked down to Bill Mitchell, bidding on behalf of Darley Australia.

The record breaking 2008 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale came to a close on Friday with the bargain hunters out in force on the Gold Coast.

Buyers operating at the lower end of the market were thrilled with the value on offer as just shy of $500,000 was traded on 132 weaners at an average price of $3,762.

Buyers from around Australia and abroad competed for an outstanding selection of youngsters will prices of up to $310,000.

A son of SLEEPING CAR topped the DBS Spring Store Sales when selling to Highflyer Bloodstock for 86,000. The three year old, named ROCK'N'ROLL BLUE, was consigned by Mocklershill Stables and was out of a half sister to IRIS BLEU, winner of the Listed Badger Ales Trophy Chase at Wincanton and comes from a strong National Hunt family that includes LAMIE BLEUE and MUSICA BELLA. Paul Webber was among those who showed interest in the gelding, but it was Anthony Bromley who made the final bid when standing with Paul Nicholls, who has bought him for an existing owner.

The Magic Millions National Sale got away to a positive start on the Gold Coast today when the first session of the Weanling Sale was held.

Highlighted by the 39 lot dispersal from Swettenham Stud, the first session grossed over $10.3 million and averaged a record $68,917.

The DBS Spring Horses-in-Training Sale set another world record on Wednesday when Howard Johnson bid £370,000 for PRESENTING FOREVER, smashing the previous World record for a Point-to-Pointer.

The son of Presenting was a close second over two and a half miles on his first start in a Point-to-Point at Oldcastle before he followed this up by easily winning a three mile Maiden Point-to-Point at Templemore by five lengths and he is sure to prove himself under National Hunt rules next year.

A Falvelon filly from the family of this year’s Blue Diamond winner Reaan stole the show late in the day to set a new record price of $110,000 at the annual William Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale.
