Presenting Forever tops strong DBS Spring HiT SaleFiled on 23 May 2008 @ 10:06
The DBS Spring Horses-in-Training Sale set another world record on Wednesday when Howard Johnson bid £370,000 for PRESENTING FOREVER, smashing the previous World record for a Point-to-Pointer. The son of Presenting was a close second over two and a half miles on his first start in a Point-to-Point at Oldcastle before he followed this up by easily winning a three mile Maiden Point-to-Point at Templemore by five lengths and he is sure to prove himself under National Hunt rules next year. The second highest price was achieved by ON RAGLAN ROAD, when he was knocked down to Howard Johnson for £320,000. The five year old son of FLEMENSFIRTH had won a three mile Maiden Point-to-Point at Dundrum on his first racecourse appearance before he followed this up with victory over two miles in a Bumper at Punchestown since publication of the catalogue. The athletic gelding had shown that he has both speed and stamina and he is sure to be a high class horse for the future. CHARITY LANE won a Bumper at Haydock before destroying his opponents in a similar contest at Ayr by 31 lengths. He looks like a chaser in the making and attracted plenty of admirers, but it was David Minton who had the final say when bidding £200,000 when stood with champion trainer, Paul Nicholls. The five year old son of INDIAN DANEHILL is obviously a smart prospect and is an exciting addition to the Ditcheat string. DOOR BOY came to the Sale after winning a Point-to-Point at Kildorrery before running a close second in a Bumper at Punchestown and he attracted plenty of attention from around the ring, but it was Bobby O'Ryan who was left to make the running before Howard Johnson came in with a final bid of £185,000. He topped the second day of trade and will now join his White Lea Stables, along with DOESLESSTHANME, who realised £115,000. He was consigned by Church Farm Stables and had won both of his Bumpers, beating Honest John who went on to win the Grade 2 Champion Bumper at Aintree. PADDY ON THE RYE was a late entry to the Sale after winning a Bumper at Navan at the first attempt on Sunday evening and he was knocked down to Howard Johnson for £100,000. Michael Donohoe bought Silver Birch at this Sale in 2006 before he won the John Smith's Grand National in 2007 and he signed for another interesting National prospect in HIMALAYAN TRAIL. He was knocked down to the BBA Ireland for £130,000 and had won the Midland's Grand National at Uttoxeter this year. He is one of the leading fancies for the World's Greatest Steeplechase in 2009 and would have a leading chance of being the 13th Grand National winner to be sold by DBS. LIKE A DUKE came from the same consignment as On Raglan Road after destroying the opposition when winning a Maiden Hurdle by 10 lengths since publication of the catalogue and the French bred five year old attracted bids from all around the pavilion before Colin Tizzard had the final bid at £105,000. The consignment of three was completed by MISTER WATZISNAME, who won a Grade 2 Novice Hurdle at Punchestown before coming under the hammer and he fell to a final bid of £70,000 from Highflyer Bloodstock. He will now be trained by Charlie Longsdon, who is looking to strengthen his squad for the 2008/2009 season and the six year old looks to be an exciting prospect when he goes novice chasing later this year. ARTIC BEN won a Bumper on his only start since publication of the catalogue and was knocked down to Henry Daly for £95,000 to run in the colours of an existing owner. The four year old son of BENEFICIAL attracted many admirers and is sure to have an exciting horse for the future. DBS Managing Director, Henry Beeby said after the Sale: 'Yet another world record, the second highest price ever for a National Hunt horse, the world's highest price of the year for a NH horse for the eighth successive year and eight six figure prices. These facts have once again allowed us to confirm that the DBS Spring Sales are, without doubt, the World's Premier National Hunt Sales. Over the three days we have sold a multitude of stars past, present and future and the enduring appeal of this sale is in its consistency and diversity. Our proud boast is that this sale provides for all NH enthusiasts at all levels and we have again catered for all tastes. The strength of the trade has been a joy and in contrast to the prophets of gloom in recent weeks and we might suggest that some of those that took the easy option to withdraw for whatever reason may be regretting it when they study the results. As well as the top lots, to record a rise in average of 7%, a 19% leap in median and a 79% clearance rate in the current climate is testament to the depth of the DBS Spring HIT Sales market. Our top price of £370,000 (€462,500) has allowed the Spring Sales to sell the world's highest priced NH horse for the eighth successive year but he follows in some illustrious footsteps as 2008 Cheltenham Festival heroes GARDE CHAMPETRE and TIDAL BAY are both recent Spring Sales toppers. We now eagerly look forward to our two day Spring Store Sales on Wednesday and Thursday next week. We feel we have put together an excellent catalogue whilst recent sales graduates have been winning consistently at the highest level.' Filed on 23 May 2008 @ 10:06
