A €32,000 Arqana yearling, he is a half brother to the Listed winner Quanzhou out of a Listed-placed Monsun mare. The second dam, Quezon City, was a Listed winner and placed second in the Group One Deutschland Preis.

The winner of his first two starts last autumn, the Andre Fabre-trained Make Believe was second in the Prix Djebel before beating stablemate New Bay to win the Poule d'Essai des Poulains. He last ran in the St James's Palace Stakes, well beaten and hating the firm ground, being rested until this winning reappearance. A 180,000 gns Tattersalls foal purchase, he is a half brother to dual Grade One winner Dubawi Heights out of the Suave Dancer mare Rosie's Posy, who fetched 2,200 gns in 2002, but commanded 400,000 gns as a broodmare in 2012. She in turn is a half sister to Group One Sprint Cup winner Tante Rose and Listed winner Bay Tree, out of dual Listed winner My Branch, who is herself a half sister to the top class hurdler Celestial Halo.
Makfi himself only came to excel as a three-year-old and his own progeny look like needing time to mature. His first crop produced 18 winners from 45 runners last season, with a sole Listed winner in Cornwallville. This season he has a Classic winner, a New Zealand Group One winner and a further Listed win from Cornwallville and from Noor Al Hawa.

He is a half brother to Listed Lord Weinstock Memorial Stakes winner Eastern Belle out of the unraced Dubai Destination mare Fleche d'Or, who sold for 62,000 gns as a broodmare at Tattersalls in 2012, after foaling Golden Horn. She is a half sister to Group One Coronation Stakes winner Rebecca Sharp (herself a stakes producer) and Group Three winner and Derby sixth Mystic Knight, out of Listed winner Nuryana.
Golden Horn is the second Arc winner for Cape Cross, the other being 2009 winner Sea The Stars. His 2012 crop has produced three stakes winners at a 4% strike rate, from a fee of €35,000.

This is the second Group One win for Hugo Palmer's Covert Love, who won the Irish Oaks in July, dropping to second in the Yorkshire Oaks last time. A €26,000 Goffs yearling, she is a half sister to a winner out of a Hawk Wing mare, herself a half sister to the Listed-placed Portrait Of A Lady, later the dam of the Group One-placed Listed winner Miss You Too. The second dam is a half sister to Listed winner Seasonal Pickup, the dam of Hong Kong Group One winner Designs On Rome, and to the dam of Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow. The third dam, Bubinka, is a Group Three winning half sister to Taufan out of Stolen Date, the latter a half sister to the great broodmare Best In Show.

The Andre Fabre-trained Ultra is unbeaten in three starts, and gives his trainer his first winner in the race since Loup Solitaire in 1995. He is a half brother to Group Three winner Synopsis and five other winners out of a placed Nashwan mare, herself a half sister to Woodbine Grade Two winner Calista out of Italian Group Two-winning sprinter Proskona, who is also the ancestress of Act One and Aktabantay.
This is the sixth stakes winner of the season for Manduro, and the first from his current crop of juveniles. The Darfley sire was successful with yesterday's Group Two Prix Chaudenay winner Vazirabad and this is his fifth career Group One winner.
