Ask is a half brother to Kensington Oval, who has yet to deliver on his undoubted promise, out of a lightly raced half sister to the Queen's Listed winner Fairy Godmother and Group Two Jockey Club Stakes winner Blueprint. The third dam is the Queen's 1974 1000 Guineas and French oaks winner Highclere.

This is the ninth stakes win and first Group One of the year for Sadler's Wells, the now pensioned sire who has 25 winners from is 99 runners in Europe so far in 2009. He is second to Danehill Dancer by number of stakes wins this year. Sadler's Wells heads Danehill as leading sire of sires this year, and his own earnings outrank all of his sire sons bar Galileo.
