A Shadwell homebred, Awzaan is the first foal out of Nufoos, winner of the Listed Eternal Stakes at Warwick and twice second in Group Threes. She is out of the winning mare Desert Lynx, a half sister to the multiply Group-placed dual Listed winner Watching. The fourth dam Glancing was a Group Three winner in France.

Awzaan is the sole stakes winner of the season for the Derrinstown-based Alhaarth, the sire of Haafhd and Phoenix Reach, who has 33 winners from 148 runners in Europe this year, including five juvenile winners. His 10 2009 yearlings sold thus far are averaging £25,400.
