A 220,000 gns Tattersalls yearling, Alfred Nobel is the first foal out of the winning mare Glinting Desert. The second dam Dazzling Park was a Group Three winner and second in the Group One Irish Champion Stakes, making her champion three-year-old filly in 1999. The third dam Park Express was herself a champion, winning the Irish Champion Stakes, the Nassau Stakes and the Lancashire Oaks before retiring to the paddocks where she has produced, inter alia, New Approach and Shinko Forest.

Alfred Nobel is inbred 3x4 to Danzig and combines the Danehill and Green Desert branches of that sire line. He is Danehill Dancer's 11th stakes winner of the season and his eighth juvenile winner from 24 runners; his great rival for the sires' title Cape Cross has four juvenile winners from 15 runners.
