Three in a row for Marchand d'OrFiled on 10 Aug 2008 @ 15:26
Freddie Head's charge scores historic treble in Prix Maurice de GheestJuly Cup winner Marchand D'Or (Marchand De Sable - Fedora, by Kendor) won his third successive renewal of the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on Sunday. The five-year-old travelled well towards the rear of the field for Davy Bonilla before showing his trademark acceleration, hitting the front a furlong out. African Rose came with a strong run but Marchand d'Or found more in the final 100 yards to go clear once more. Belliflore was third. Avanti Polonia scores in PomoneThe Group Two Prix de Pomone was won by Avanti Polonia (Polish Precedent - Alisa, by Daun), also trained by Freddie Head and ridden by Davy Bonilla. The Polish Precedent filly's finest hour came when winning the Group Three Fahrofer Stutenpreis in June last year, but she hasn't won in six starts since. Held up in the early stages, the four-year-old quickened well to challenge Turfrose inside the final furlong, going clear to win a shade cosily. Filed on 10 Aug 2008 @ 15:26
