Pentire colt tops day two of NZB Select Sale

Day two of New Zealand Bloodstock's three-day Select Sale at Karaka saw good competition on many of the yearlings catalogued for sale on Thursday.

Selling started in a similar fashion to yesterday, but strengthened further as the day progressed. With 457 of the Select Sale offering now through the ring, the average has increased to $37,894, with a median that's held steady at $30,000 and a clearance rate that's crept up to 70%. Total takings so far are $11,406,000.

Satisfactory trade at DBS January Sale

The two day DBS January NH Sale concluded on Wednesday after two satisfactory days' trade. Overall, 132 lots (70%) sold for an aggregate of £717,200. The average was down by 11% on last year to £5,392 but the median increased by 19% to £2,500.

The focus at Karaka on wednesday turned to the opening session of New Zealand Bloodstock's three-day Select Sale.

Today saw the first 227 of the 681 horses catalogued for this session go up for sale, with 145 sold for a total of $5,149,500. This represented a clearance rate of 69%, with a $35,514 average and $30,000 median.

Low-key trade at Dundalk

A son of Anshan from the family of Grade One winning chaser Pay It Forward was top lot at Goffs National Hunt Breeze Up at Dundalk on Wednesday.

A disappointing day's trade saw only seven lots sold from the 44 offered for an aggregate of €90,500. The average price was €12,929.

Yearlings dominated the Thursday session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, led by a Street Cry (IRE) filly who sold for $125,000.

Front Range Farm purchased the filly, who is a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Dash of Humor. She was consigned by Tom Evans’ Trackside Farm, agent.

A yearling colt by Maria’s Mon brought $390,000 to top Wednesday’s session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale.

Florida pinhooker Jimmy Gladwell signed the ticket in the name of his Ferguson Valley Ranch. He said the colt would be sent to his Kindergarten Farm near Williston, Florida, and be sold at auction later this year.

The Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale opened on Monday with the average of $59,138 down 45.9 percent from $109,364 in 2008. Gross receipts for the session totalled $11,945,900, down 44 percent from last year’s $21,325,900, while the median decreased 50.9 percent from $55,000 to $27,000. A total of 202 horses were sold this year compared to 195 in 2008.

Sunday's session of the 2009 Conrad Jupiters Magic Millions Yearling Sale bucked the world trend and increased on last year's figures.

An impressive local, interstate and international buying bench helped the sale gross over $5.4 million at an impressive average price of $38,035, up some 18% on last year's figure of $32,269. The clearance rate today of 82 per cent was up markedly from the 78 per cent twelve months ago.

The Magic Millions yearling sale continued on Friday with a well-bred son of Redoute's Choice topping proceedings when selling to Devitt and Gordon Investments for A$1.2 million. Consigned by Widden Stud, the colt is out of the Group One-winning mare Kapchat and is a three-quarters brother to Group Three winner Kaphero and Listed winner Princessa.

The OBSC Winter Mixed Sale closed on Wednesday with the aggregate down by 57.8% from last year. The average price dropped by 39.6% and the median by 45.5%.

Wednesday's session saw 175 sold for a total of $678,900, averaging $3,879 with a $2,200 median price. The buyback percentage was 32.4%.

The gray or roan colt is out of Social Scene, by Tabasco Cat, and is a half brother to stakes placed Winsome Charm.
