Three mares sell for 3 million guineas or moreThe Sangster family's Ocean Silk headed an astonishing day at the Tattersalls December Mare Sale which saw three lots top three million guineas on the highest grossing day in European auction history surpassing the previous record, set at last year’s corresponding session, by an astonishing 21%. The turnover of 36,084,500 guineas for the 179 lots sold resulted in an average of 201,589 guineas, up 49 %, and a median of 85,000 guineas, up 47%.

Fillies dominate final foal session of Tattersalls December SaleFillies dominated the final session of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale, accounting for three of the four lots to realise 200,000 guineas or more on a day which saw 153 lots sold for 6,775,000 guineas at an average of 44,281 guineas and a median of 28,500 guineas. This took the five day aggregate to 28,684,600 guineas for the 785 lots sold, at an average of 36,541 guineas (down 6% on 2006) and a median of 20,000 guineas (down 9% on 2006).

Irish veterinarian Demi O’Byrne, buying for the Coolmore trio of John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith dominated the fourth day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale buying the four highest priced lots and the sale continued it’s upward momentum with 176 lots selling for 12,455,500 guineas, at an average of 70,770 guineas and a median of 51,000 guineas.

The Tattersalls December Foal Sale burst into life on the third day with nine foals selling for six figure sums and a son of OASIS DREAM realising 400,000 guineas. Trade on the third day saw 170 foals sold for 5,936,500 guineas, at an average of 34,921 guineas and a median of 22,000 guineas.

The Tattersalls December Sale got underway at Park Paddocks in Newmarket with a day of yearlings which are to be followed by five days of foals and four days of breeding stock. The first day of the sale than spans eleven days saw 143 lots sold for 4,086,300 guineas, at an average of 28,576 guineas and a record median of 15,000 guineas.

Second best aggregate recorded in sale as overproduction bitesA strong week’s trade at Goffs November Sale drew to a close on Sunday with final figures showing the second highest set of results in the sale’s history. Top lot of the final session was Babola (Lot 1925), a four year old daughter of Grand Lodge offered in foal to Dual Group One winner Aussie Rules. The Skehanagh Bloodstock-consigned mare is a half sister to Group One Grand Criterium runner up Bernebeau and sold for €62,000 to Agence FIPS.

A very strong second session of Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale saw Swettenham Stud’s winning mare Wondrous Story (Lot 1599) earn the top price when knocked down to Adrian Nicoll of BBA Ireland for €165,000. The seven year old daughter of Royal Academy is a half sister to four time Group winning filly Musicale. Later in the day the dual winning and stakes placed Cape Cross mare So Sweet (Lot 1755) from the Darley draft went to Moorpark Stud for €125,000.

A very strong opening session of Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale was topped by Group Three CL Weld Stakes winner Rag Top (Lot 1417) from Killoley Castle Farm. The seven year old Barathea mare was sold in foal to Noverre and purchased by Yeguada De Milagro for €280,000.

A very solid final day of trade at Goffs November Foal Sale was crowned by a Galileo half brother to Group Three winner Im Spartacus (Lot 1248) from the Irish National Stud who fetched €280,000. From the family of El Gran Senor and Try My Best, the colt was purchased by Eugene McDermott of Kennycourt Stud.
