This is a first stakes winner for third season sire Chevalier, who had 15 winners at a 44% strike rate in Europe last year. His earnings of £136,000 put the Tally Ho Stud resident in 25th place on last year's leading second crop sires' table; he was in 17th place at the end of his freshman season. Sons of Danehill now have 22 European stakes winners to their names this year against 26 for Sadler's Wells-sired stallions.

Don't Tell Mary won on her only previous start and is Starcraft's only runner to date. He becomes the first freshman sire to record a stakes win. As a five-year-old in Europe Starcraft beat his fellow freshman sire Dubawi in the Queen Elizabeth Second Stakes - Dubawi himself got off the mark today with a first winner at Marseille.

Starcraft's 54 yearlings sold have averaged £47,700 down under this year, putting him in 22nd place on our list, headed by Redoute's Choice, of leading sires by average yearling price in 2009; his 2008 yearling average was £27,800 with a top price of 200,000 gns at Tattersalls.

A £32,000 DBS yearling, Don't Tell Mary is a half-sister to Exceptional Art and the Listed-placed Cape Fear out of a winning dam. She is inbred 3x3 to Nureyev, who ranks seventh on our list of leading sires of sires in 2009, with Peintre Celebre and Fasliyev his leading sire sons this year - Soviet Star is his fifth best.
