Amour Propre speedy in CornwallisFiled on 11 Oct 2008 @ 13:11
Paris House colt "as good as Kyllachy" after Group Three winHenry Candy picked up Amour Propre (Paris House - Miss Prim, by Case Law) for a bargain 1,500 gns at the DBS October Sale last year. The colt's dam is a half sister to Candy's smart sprinter Corrybrough, and he showed he has the family talent in spades at Ascot on Saturday, winning the Group Three Cornwallis Stakes over five furlongs to make it three wins from four starts on his first go in stakes company. Ridden by Dane O'Neill, Amour Propre raced on the stands rail, away from the body of the 19 runners who raced down the centre of the track. In the final two furlongs the son of Paris House pulled out a definite advantage and ran on well to the line, despite being kept up to his work by Waffle, who took second, a neck down. Mrs Kipling ran well to take third. Candy was asked how Amour Propre ranks alongside the likes of Airwave and Kyllachy and responded: "He certainly deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them - he's a very, very good horse. I'd said before the race he really needs the ground like concrete so he has done very well to win." The later Group Three Benogough Stakes over six furlongs saw Stewards' Cup winner Conquest (Invincible Spirit - Aguinaga, by Machiavellian) put in another good effort to take a third win of the season. The William Haggas-trained four-year-old has been unpredictable, but was always going well today, tracking Zidane, who forged to the lead a furlong and a half out, and stretching smoothly clear despite his high head carriage. James Fanshawe had a frustrating 2-3 with Sir Gerry filling third behind Zidane. Filed on 11 Oct 2008 @ 13:11
