Authorized back to his best in Juddmonte InternationalFiled on 21 Aug 2007 @ 15:21
Derby winner Authorized (Montjeu - Funsie, by Saumarez) won the Group One Juddmonte International Stakes over ten furlongs at York on Tuesday in impressive style, beating Dylan Thomas by a length with the pair well clear of last year's winner Notnowcato. Notnowcato had beaten Authorized in the Eclipse last time, but the winner showed his versatility today over the course and distance of his emphatic Dante Stakes win, becoming the first Derby winner to win a subsequent race of any type since High Chaparral dead-heated in the Breeders' Cup in 2003. Song Of Hiawatha set a decent tempo as pacemaker, with Notnowcato racing prominently behind, which gave him first run on the rail in the straight. Authorized had travelled well for Frankie Dettori and loomed wide on the outside as Notnowcato lengthened his stride, gettting to the front inside the final two furlongs. Dylan Thomas had to angle out and pursued Authorized, but never really threatened as Dettori pushed Peter Chapple-Hyam's colt out to a popular win. Authorized is now as short as 2-1 favourite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. Filed on 21 Aug 2007 @ 15:21
