Catcher In The Rye filly takes German OaksFiled on 3 Aug 2008 @ 16:05
The Peter Schiergen-trained Rosenreihe (Catcher In The Rye - Rosengeste, by Be My Guest) ran out a surprise winner of the Group One Preis der Diana at Dusseldorf on Sunday. Rosenreihe was settled at the rear of the field by Andrasch Starke and came wide on the outside past her rivals in a rough race that saw five jockeys visit the stewards' room afterwards. Third behind today's favourite Peace Royale in the Group Three Schwarzgold Rennen in May, Rosenreihe's best effort came when second to Briseida in the German Guineas. Stepped up to 10f in the Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft she could manage only fourth before a below par run in a Group Three three weeks ago. The step up to 2200m clearly didn't incommode Rosenreihe, who beat Group Three winner Lady Marian by a neck. Group Two winner Baila Me was third, a length and a quarter adrift. This win is a first Pattern success for Catcher In The Rye, second to Clodovil in the French Guineas in 2003, who saw Ryehill Dreamer win the Listed Golden Fleece Stakes last month for a first northern hemisphere stakes success.
