Maraahel denied fourth win in Chester Group Three

The Mick Channon-trained five-year-old Championship Point (Lomitas - Flying Squaw, by Be My Chief), twice a Listed winner, gained his first Group win when seeing off Maraahel to win the Group Three Huxley Stakes over 1m2f at Chester on Thursday.

Jockey Darryl Holland adopted forcing tactics on the eventual winner. With Maraahel in close attendance the pair set a fast pace and went well clear of the other runners. On the home turn Championship Point looked flat out and Maraahel came alongside, taking a narrow advantage in the straight. Championship Point fought back under Holland and regained a narrow lead in the final 50 yards to score a gutsy win at odds of 12-1. Maraahel in second took his career earnings beyond £1 million. Spice Route was third, and Multidimensional, sent off the favourite, disappointed in failing to quicken.
