City Leader lands Royal LodgeFiled on 29 Sep 2007 @ 14:45
Half brother to Breeders' Cup winner wins Ascot Group TwoThe Sangster Family's City Leader (Fasliyev - Kanmary, by Kenmare), a half brother to Colonel Collins and Commander Collins as well as Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Lit De justice, won the Group Two Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes over the round mile at Ascot on Saturday. The Brian Meehan-trained juvenile showed real heart battling back from being headed in the straight, and pays a compliment to Raven's Pass - he was second to John Gosden's colt in the Solario Stakes at Sandown on his last start. Mark Johnston's Campanologist led the tightly grouped field, with City Leader a close second and Alfathaa third. In the straight, City Leader grabbed the lead, and was challenged by Godolphin's Emmrooz. City Leader fought back though and gained a decisive advantage. Achill Island came with a late challenge that saw him take second. City Leader holds entries in both the Dewhurst and the Racing Post Trophy. Listed winner for Act OneThe Space Property Rosemary Stakes was won by the Clive Cox-traned Perfect Star (Act One - Granted, by Cadeaux Genereux) - a first Listed winner for Shadwell's second crop sire Act One. Mick Kinanne led throughout on Perfect Star in an illustration of how hard it is for horses to come from behind on the testing ground at Ascot, which has had 11mm of rain in the last 24 hours. Lady Gloria went with Perfect Star in the straight, but could make no impression on the winner. Filed on 29 Sep 2007 @ 14:45
