Niarchos-bred Saddex (Sadler's Wells - Remote Romance, by Irish River) gained his first Group One win, and his third Group win of the season, in the Group One Rheinland-Pokal der Sparkasse KolnBonn over 2400m at Cologne on Sunday. The Peter Rau-trained four-year-old won the Gerling-Preis and the Grand Prix de Chantilly, both Group Two, earlier this season.

Godolphin raider Laverock cut out the early running but Saddex came to the fore on the turn and powered clear to a one-and-a-quarter-length win over First Stream, with Bussoni third.

Saddex could now be aimed at the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.
