Winner not in the Derby

The Group Three Chester Vase, a trial for the Derby over 1m4f, was won by Juddmonte homebred Doctor Fremantle (Sadler's Wells - Summer Breeze, by Rainbow Quest), the product of a high class stayimg family who is entered in the King Edward VII Stakes and the Irish Derby but not at Epsom.

The eventual winner missed the break but was brought into the race by Ryan Moore as Pampas Cat set a muddling early pace. Wassily Kandinsky came to the fore 7f out to inject a little more pace, at whch point Moore brought Doctor Fremantle to an ideal position behind the leaders on the rail.

Turning in the tempo increased and Moore went for the gap on the rail on Doctor Fremantle, who quickened well. He idled briefly, but All The Aces came with a strong run on the outside and Doctor Fremantle had to exert himself to get the better of that rival. The pair were five lengths ahead of Pampas Cat in third.

Doctor Fremantle is by Sadler's Wells out of a winning mare who is a sister to the multiple Group/Grade One winners Sunshack and Taintrap - both of whom won the Group One Prix Royal-Oak.
