Fleeting Spirit flies home in Group Two

The Group Two Flying Childers Stakes over five furlongs at Doncaster on Friday was won by Fleeting Spirit (Invincible Spirit - Millennium Tale, by Distant Relative), who confirmed herself to be one of the fastest juveniles in training.

Sent off the 5-4 favourite on another dreadful day for bookmakers, Fleeting Spirit settled a close second to Gimcrack winner Captain Gerrard - who finished two and a half lengths third to Fleeting Spirit at Goodowwd - with Dark Angel racing on the rail.

Frankie Dettori kicked clear on Fleeting Spirit a furlong out and put the race beyond doubt in strides, cruising to a two length win. Cute Ass ran well in third, denied the second spot by a late finishing Spirit Of Sharjah.

Fleeting Spirit was a 90,000 guineas purchase for The Searchers partnership at Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up sale in April. Trained by Jeremy Noseda, she won a Nottingham maiden well before missing Royal Ascot because of an infection. She showed her speed in the Molecomb, where she proved stronger in a battle with subsequent Group One winner Kingsgate Native. Upped to six furlongs in the Lowther at York last time, she ran a little keenly and found Nahoodh and Visit too good over that trip.
