Elmaamul is put down

Elmaamul (Diesis - Modena, by Roberto), winner of the 1990 Coral Eclipse Stakes and Phoenix Champion Stakes, both at Group One level, has been put down due to a deteriorating heart condition, reports Shadwell Estate Company.

Trained by Major Dick Hern, Elmaamul won five of his ten career starts under Willie Carson in the colours of Hamdan Al Maktoum. He was a half-brother to Oaks winner Reams Of Verse.

Elmaamul retired to stud in 1991, siring progeny such as Sweet Return (out of Sweet Revival), winner of two Grade Ones in the U.S. last year, Lateen Sails (Felucca) and 2004 Group Three Sagaro Stakes winner Risk Seeker (Robertet).

Another of his sons is Muhtathir (Majmu), who stands as a promising sire at Haras du Mezeray in France and has sired the likes of Satwa Queen and Headache.
