Goldikova takes Prix RothschildFiled on 3 Aug 2008 @ 14:19
Freddie Head has been in great form this summer and his Group One run of success continued on Sunday when Goldikova (Anabaa - Born Gold, by Blushing Groom) beat Darjina to win the Prix Rothschild at Deauville. 1000 Guineas winner Natagora was third on the soft ground. Goldikova ran placed behind Zarkava in the French Guineas and the Prix de Diane but won the Group Three Prix Chloe on her last start. She settled today just behind the brisk early pace set by Natagora, moving into contention inside the 200m mark and seeing off the late challenge of Darjina to win with somehing in hand. Nahoodh was never able to mount an effective challenge. The win was one of three for jockey Olivier Peslier, who had won the earlier Group Three Prix de Cabourg on the Yves de Nicolay-trained juvenile colt Silver Frost (Verglas-Hidden Silver), running on late with an emphatic turn of foot to see off Pual Cole's Abbeyside, a Listed winner on debut, by half a length.
