Lush Lashes shows stamina no problem in Yorkshire OaksFiled on 22 Aug 2008 @ 13:10
Bolger's filly wins the Yorkshire OaksThe Group One Yorkshire Oaks - run at Newmarket after York abandoned the Ebor meeting earlier this week - was won by the Jim Bolger-trained Lush Lashes (Galileo - Dance For Fun, by Anabaa), the even-money favourite after her narrow second, following a trouble-filled run, in the Nassau Stakes. The Galileo filly settled at the rear of the six runners under Kevin Manning as Cape Amber set a fair early gallop. Half a mile from home Ryan Moore moved up to challenge on Allegretto, tracked through by John Gosden's Michita. Lush Lashes was pulled to the stands side, where she had a clear run, but she had to takcle Gosden's other filly Dar Re Mi, who had taken the lead with a run on the far side. That proved no problem for Lush Lashes, who had beaten the Watership Down Stud homebred in the Musidora Stakes in May, and she took the lead and galloped clear once she hit the rising ground to win somewhat cosily. Dar Re Mi was second and Michita third. There had been some doubt as to Lush Lash's ability to stay 12f after she disappointed in the Oaks but she showed today that was an errant bad run and added a second Group One to her Coronation Stakes win. Bolger said after the race: Bolger said: "Stamina was an issue but it wasn't a big issue. I never really had any doubts about the mile and a half at Epsom, and we felt all of the time that she didn't handle the track as it was presented on the day. "All the very good horses win Group Ones over a mile, a mile and a quarter and a mile and a half. All those distances come alike to her so she has plenty of options. She might even come back here for the Sun Chariot Stakes. "She could well race on next year and go to Dubai in the spring. She has an invite to Hong Kong too, and we will give consideration to the Breeders' Cup. There is also the Irish Champion Stakes, the Matron and the Prix Vermeille." As to the disruption caused by the rescheduling of the race, Bolger added: "All the good trainers train their horses to the minute, but a week is enough for me. It is an inexact science anyway and I was never a minute man. We were very happy to come here and she was never going to York once the ground went soft." The Queen's juvenile breaks track recordThe earlier 7f maiden had been won by the Queen's Golden Stream, a Sadler's Wells sister to Oaks second Flight Of Fancy, who beat the fast-finishing Uvinza by a length 1m.24.01secs. The Fillies' Mile is a possible target for the Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly. Filed on 22 Aug 2008 @ 13:10
