Paco Boy lands Greenham

The Richard Hannon-trained Paco Boy (Desert Style - Tappen Zee, by Sandhurst Prince) had the benefit of a win in last month's Listed Spring Cup at Lingfield under his belt and he put that to good advantage, sprinting home to win the Group Three Greenham Stakes at Newbury on Saturday at odds of 6-1.

Bob's Surprise set a decent pace up front under Michael Hills and on the soft ground Paco Boy was the only one to emerge from the pack to take him on. He got on terms in the final furlong, eventually sprinting clear to win by three quarters of a length from Bob's Surprise. The pair were four lengths clear of Red Alert Day in third. Confront was sent off fvaourite, but never picked up on the ground.

The winner is not in the 2000 Guineas. Perhaps more of a sprinting type, the option to supplement is available to connections. This was Richard Hannon's fourth win in the Greenham.
