Talented Abbeyside takes Prix Yacowlef

The summer meeting at Deauville opened on Saturday with two Listed contests, the first of which, the Prix Yacowlef over 1000m, was won by Paul Cole's Abbeyside (Danehill Dancer - Trois Graces, by Alysheba) on yet another succesful raid across the channel for the Whatcombe trainer.

Abbeyside, the sole colt in the juvenile contest, was slowly away under Christophe Soumillon. He tracked the leaders before making his move 300m from home, easly getting the measure of Pure Joy and going on to win by a comfortable three quarters of a length. Privalova was third.

Celebrissime dominates in saint Patrick

The later Prix de Saint Patrick over 1600m saw Celebrissime (Peintre Celebre - Ring Beaune, by Bering) dominate his four rivals, taking command and seeing off the attacks of his rivals for a first stakes win. Violon Sacre travelled well but had to settle for second, a length and a half down, with Putney Bridge in third.
