Fabre filly Guineas favourite after impressive Deauville performance

Juddmonte homebred Proviso (Dansili - Binche, by Woodman) won her maiden over seven furlongs at Deauville on debut last month and the Andre Fabre-trained filly returned over course and distance in the Group Three Prix du Calvados on Saturday.

Sent off the favourite, she found a gap two and a half furlongs out and quickened well, galloping clear. Peter Chapple-Hyam's impressive Newmarket winner Laureldeane Gale gave chase on the rail and the two went well clear of the remainder, but Proviso and Stephane Pasquier always had the challenger held as the French filly was ridden out with hands and heels in a very smart performance that saw her installed as the 8-1 favourite for the 1000 Guineas with some bookmakers.

Proviso's half sister Louviere (Alhaarth) has had three runs and three places for Pat Eddery this season and looks like she wants a decent trip. Her dam ran twice and is a half-sister to Group Three winner Binary File.

Proviso's sire Dansili carries all before him at the moment, both on the tarck and in the sale ring.

Listed win for Gipson Dessert

Jean-Claude Rouget's juvenile filly Gipson Dessert (Orientate - Gypsy Hollow, by Dixieland Band) quickened smartly to win the Listed Criterium Du Fonds Europeen De L'Elevage over a mile, beating Blue Chagall. The favourite, Andre Fabre's Americain, took time to find to find his stride, but finsihed strongly for third.
