| CELESTIAL GOLD | Has failed to show anything like his old form since his return. Not totally disgraced behind Denman, but the performance did not suggest he could take a competitive handicap such as this at present. No course form.
| SIMON | This fellow has to be on the short-list for the Grand National. He appears happiest on flat tracks and ran away with this race last season, off an 8lb lower mark. He was still going well when unseating at Cheltenham last time; holds place claims at the least in this season’s renewal.
| LE VOLFONI | No course form and no form on right-handed tracks. Appears just in the handicappers grip and yet to win further than two and a half miles.
| IRON MAN | Decent form on good ground and right-handed tracks. Trainer has had just two winners since the end of November 2007, and Iron Man still looks slightly high in the weights. Eighth in the race last season off a 19lb lower mark. Only course run.
| GUNGADU | Three miles appears this fellow’s best trip. He goes well fresh, and appears happiest in races of less than twelve runners; form on right-handed tracks, but none at Kempton Park. Now on his highest ever mark, 9lb higher than last time out, and may have just too much to do.
| UNGARO | Won the Feltham Novices Chase on Boxing Day 2006 over course and distance. Likes going right-handed and best on a flat track. Ran an excellent race when runner up to An Accordion at Doncaster; despite a 7lb rise should go well again.
| REGAL HEIGHTS | Ran as well as could be expected behind Denman at Newbury, having run away with a decent handicap at Ascot. Looks on a stiffish mark now and no course form to his name.
| WEE ROBBIE | Progressive horse who ran well in the Jewson Novices at last year’s Cheltenham Festival. Won on his return to action at Ascot and far from disgraced behind Silverburn last time out Sandown Park. Beaten six lengths by Gungadu at Ascot last season, and now 10lb better off. First run at the course but effective going right-handed; has run well at Huntingdon’s flat track. Chances off what looks a good handicap mark.
| PALARSHAN | Sixth in the race in 2005 off a 2lb higher mark. He has never won further than two mile one furlong, though he did stay on in when he ran in this race. His last two runs have suggested he needs this trip now, and he will act well on the likely ground. Winner on Leicester’s right-handed track.
| DREAM ALLIANCE | Has not lived up to the promise of his runner-up spot in the Hennessy behind Denman. Looked to have a Graduation Chase won at Exeter when he departed the scene three from home. No course form, though he has won at Perth’s right-handed flat track. Looks high enough in the weights.
| ALDERBURN | Won a handicap here Christmas 2006 off a 14lb lower mark. Likes good ground, going right-handed and should run well. Disappointing last time after a good effort at Ascot; has an excellent record in field of eleven runners or less.
| KELAMI | Useful at best and has a course win to his name. Struggling to produce his best form but a chance if he bounces back.
| ARDAGHEY | Ardaghey’s best form comes when he is fresh. A sixty-three day break should be enough for him to run well, though this track may place too much emphasis on speed, something he is not overly blessed with. He can jump poorly; if he does get it right a place would not be out of reach.
| BLACK HILLS | One win and one second at Kempton Park over fences. His form on right-handed tracks over fences reads 2,1,2,1,3,1,2; fairly handicapped he has a chance if he sees the trip out.
| BAGAN | Good or good to soft ground suits Bagan. He was a winner over the course during his hurdling days. His profile suggests he is best in fields of eight or less runners when racing over fences. Raised 10lb for his latest win and may struggle to stay three-miles in a race run at a fast pace.
| BURNTOAKBOY | Useful hurdler and steadily getting the hang of fences. Has shown good form going right-handed and also has run well on flat tracks. First run at Kempton Park. Well-weighted if he can produce his hurdles form over fences.
| YARDBIRD | Three runs over the course have yielded a win, second to Alderburn and pulled up lame. Fairly weighted and not disgraced on seasonal bow behind An Accordion at Doncaster. Yet to win in this class.
| HERECOMESTANLEY | Course and distance winner and enjoys right-handed tracks. On the downside he is yet to reach the frame in five attempts in Class One or Two races.
