The Robert Collet-trained Salut l'Africain landed his second Listed prize in the Prix Djebel over 1400m at Maisons-Laffitte on Monday, holding off the late flourish of the previously unbeaten Fabre colt Elusif.

Salut l'Africain raced just behind the early pace set by Konig Concorde and Indigo Blue, with Elusif last of the seven runners.

200m out Indigo Blue went for home, tracked by Collet's colt, who soon took a narrow advantage. Elusif came with a strong run on the outside, but failed to get up by a nose.

Salut l'Africain had 15 starts as a two-year-old, 9 of them in stakes company, and he took the Listed Prix Francois Boutin at Deauville in August, though his best effort came later, when he was third to Domingues in the Group Three Prix Eclipse.
