The Henry Cecil-trained Many Volumes (Chester House - Reams Of Verse, by Nureyev), a conditions winner at three last year and second to Supaseus in the listed Wolferton Handicap at Royal Ascot recently, gained his first stakes win in the Listed Gala Stakes over 10f at Sandown on Friday, where he beat Bushman by three lengths. Kandidate was a further two and a half lengths away in third.

It was a good day at Sandown for Many Volumes' dam Reams Of Verse - the Oaks winners grandson Zacinto, out of Many Volumes' half sister Ithaca, was put in as a 14-1 chance for the 2000 Guineas after an impressive eight length maiden win.

Light The Fire (Invincible Spirit - Rouge Noir, by Saint Ballado) won the Listed Dragon Stakes over 5f at Sandown on Friday, taking up the running soon after half way and forging clear, passing the post three quarters of a length to the good having held all challenges at bay. April Pride was second.

Trained by Brian Meehan, Light The Fire won a maiden at leicester before showing decent early speed in the Windsor Castle stakes at Royal Ascot, where he faded to tenth behind Flashman's Papers.
