Septimus lands Irish St Leger for O'Brien

Aidan O'Brien completed a clean sweep of Classics at the Curragh this year when the 1-3 favourite Septimus (Sadler's Wells - Caladira, by Darshaan) ran out an imperious winner of the Irish Field Irish St Leger, being pushed out to a 13 length success over stablemate New Zealand, with Kevin Prendergast's Red Moloney third.

Septimus, last year's Lonsdale Cup and Doncaster Cup winner, was having only his second start of the season, having won the Curragh Cup in May.

Katiyra too good in Blandford

The John Oxx-trained Katiyra (Peintre Celebre) was third in the Oaks and fifth in the Irish Oaks before the Aga Khan's homebred gained a confidence-boosting victory in the Listed Hurry Harriet Stakes last time. That put her spot on for the Group Two Blandford Stakes, where she proved far too good for her rivals, taking the lead under Mick kinane two furlongs out and powering clear to a four length verdict over Beach Bunny.

Oxx said afterwards: "She has great speed and this mile and two trip is a good one for her. She's won a Group Two and will now go for a Group One, probably the Prix de l'Opera on Arc day."
