Head's golden spell continues

Freddie Head landed a second Group One in three days when Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's homebred Tamayuz (Nayef - Al Ishq, by Nureyev) ran out a one and a half length winner of the Group One Prix Jean Prat.

Ridden by Davy Bonilla, Tamayuz raced handily and hit the front 200m out, where he buckled down to beat Raven's Pass, who couldn't claw back the advantage the winner had gained. Rio De La Plata closed fast to take third, a further half length adrift.

The winner of the Group Three Prix de Fontainebleau in April, Tamayuz was unbeaten going into the French Guineas, where he finished ninth behind Falco.

Head said: "My horse was very impressive today. I knew he was a good horse, but the Guineas was a stupid race. We had a bad draw and had to wait and wait and it ended up being a bad sort of race. But he quickened well today and has lots of speed.

"There was nothing else for him after the Guineas and I didn't have a lot of choice so I kept him fresh to come here. I knew this race would suit him, but I was surprised when I saw the entries as it is usually much easier.

"We will have to talk to Sheikh Hamdan, but the Prix Jacques le Marois would be the obvious race for him."

Tamayuz is one of three Group winners for Shadwell sire Nayef, alongside Spacious (Group Two May Hill Stakes) and Lady Marian (Group Three Fahrhofer Stutenpreis).
