Third Group One for Lush LashesFiled on 7 Sep 2008 @ 14:46
Bolger's filly sees off Nahoodh to win Matron StakesThe rescheduled Group One Matron Stakes over a mile at Leopardstown on Sunday was won by Jim Bolger's Lush Lashes (Galileo - Dance For Fun, by Anabaa), who added to her wins in the Coronation Stakes and the Yorkshire Oaks. Lush Lashes stalked the early pace set by Lady Gloria before jockey Kevin Manning asked her for an effort in the straight. She responded well, soon quickening clear in what looked a decisive move, but Falmouth Stakes winner Nahoodh and Irish Guineas and Nassau winner Halfway To Heaven - who beat Lush Lashes in that tactical affair at Goodwood - both mounted strong challenges. Lush Lashes showed real fighting spirit, rallying close home to get up by a neck over Nahoodh with Halfway To Heaven a close third. Bolger said afterwards: "We'll discuss the options we've got for her for the rest of the season. There's the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket, the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp and the Hong Kong Cup that Alexander Goldrun won. The Breeders' Cup is also a possibility. I would think she will remain in training next year." The Bogberry beats Famous Name in KilternanAidan O'Brien's The Bogberry (Hawk Wing - Lahinch, by Danehill Dancer) had won only once before Sunday, when piloted to victory by Keiren Fallon on his return to riding from a ban last year. In the Group Three Kilternan Stakes on Sunday the Craven Stakes third swept past his rivals to register a half length success over the odds-on favourite Famous Name, who was returning from a break and showed little in the final furlong.
