The Hans-Jurgen Groschel-trained Waleria (Artan - Wiolante, by Lagunas) won the Group Three Preis der Deutschen Einheit - a race commememorating German reunification - over 10f at Hoppegarten on Wednesday. The race is the last major contest at the Berlin track, which has been struggling financially.

Auvano led them along, with Waleria dropped in at the rear of the eleven runners. He made his move in the final quarter mile, switching off the rail before diving back where he took advantage of a gap on the rail. Driven out, he took the lead in the final strides to beat Axxos - a Group Two winner and second to Arc hopeful Zambezi Sun in the Grand Prix de Paris - by three quarters of a length. Group Three winner Davidoff was a further length and a half back in third.

The four-year-old Waleria won the Group Three Furstenburg Rennen last season, and has won two listed races in Germany this summer.
