War Chant colt tops inaugural Dundalk Breeze-Up SaleFiled on 8 May 2008 @ 09:20
Goffs first ever Flat Breeze Up at Dundalk got off to an extremely bright start today with strong trade throughout. Taking top spot was a son of War Chant from Mocklershill Stables (Lot 23) who attracted no shortage of admirers following his impressive breeze over the Polytrack. The colt, whose half brother is Stakes placed and who hails from the close family of multiple American Grade One winner Hawkster, was ultimately knocked down to Yuma Bloodstock Ltd for €67,000. The sale’s overall leading consigner Bansha House Stables provided the next highest price with their striking Invincible Spirit colt out of a Stakes placed dam (Lot 37). The half brother to three winners was sold to Bobby O’Ryan for €43,000. Jamie Osborne went to €42,000 for Suirview Stables’ Kyllachy colt (Lot 43) out of a half sister to Group Two winner The Trader. Turnover for the sale was €840,000, with a clearance rate of 65% recorded. Average price was €14,483 and median was €11,000. Commenting on the success of the inaugural flat sale at Dundalk, Goffs Chief Executive Henry Beeby said: “We are delighted with the strong trade witnessed today at Dundalk. Back in January, following our National Hunt Breeze Up, I said that the surface, location and facilities at Dundalk are absolutely ideal and sales here had a very bright prospect. Today’s sale reinforces that point quite graphically. The sale attracted an excellent crowd and we sold horses to Hong Kong, America, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, the UK and of course Ireland. There is little doubt in our minds that this sale has a very bright future and we are grateful to our vendors for providing an excellent first catalogue that allowed us to return some highly respectable figures”.
