Blandford Stakes winner fetches €620,000

Four Sins, winner of the Group Two Blandford Stakes, was top lot on the first day of Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale on Saturday. The four year old Sinndar mare from Aga Khan Studs is in foal to Dansili and was purchased by John McCormack Bloodstock for €620,000.

George Washington’s only foal was certainly the star attraction at Goffs November Foal Sale and duly topped the final day’s trade when selling to Gerard Burke of Glidawn Stud for €280,000. Consigned by the Irish National Stud on behalf of Italian breeder Stefano Luciani, the smashing looking filly is a half sister to Group Three winner Ombre Legere as well as Group One placed Flawly, the dam of French Derby runner up Best Name.

The fourth session of Goffs November Sale was topped by a son of Invincible Spirit (Lot 1030) from the Irish National Stud who made €72,000 selling to Summerhill Bloodstock. The good moving colt is out of an own sister to Group Three winner St Clair Ridge.

New Zealand Bloodstock's 2008 Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs has concluded with solid results from the past two days of selling at Karaka.

Both the sale median and average were only a shade off last year's figures, with final average $60,366 (down just 1% from a record $61,134 in 2007) and $33,000 (down 8% from $36,000 in 2007).

Trade improved somewhat at Wednesday's third session of Goffs November Foal Sale, with 118 of the 213 lots selling, but the aggregate of €1,477,600 was nonetheless well down on last year. The average of €12,522 was down from €20,170 last year, and the median fell from €15,500 to €8,000.

Average down 39% as 15 day sale concludes

The Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale concluded on Monday with gross receipts for the 15-day auction totalling $185,552,300, down 45.6 percent from last year’s record $340,877,200. Average price of $61,462 declined 39 percent from $100,821 reported in 2007. The median of $20,000 decreased 42.9 percent from last year’s $35,000. A total of 3,019 horses sold compared to 3,381 a year ago.

The 2008 Arqana Autumn Sale at Saint-Cloud generated an upbeat market that seemed to make light weight of the financial and economic turmoil. The average price for the one-day session (down from two in 2007) is almost identical to a year ago at €20,688, while the 74,4% clearance rate, a tremendous performance in the current conditions, is up 10 points from the 2007 session.
