Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale concluded on Thursday with the final session proving the best of the sale, with 131 lots selling for 17,310,000 guineas at an average of 132,137 guineas and a median of 90,000 guineas. The three day sale saw 410 lots sold for a total of 49,821,000 guineas at an average of 121,515 guineas, and a record median of 85,000 guineas, extraordinary figures given the crisis taking over world economies at present.

Hip No. 931, New Real Deal, a 10-year-old graded stakes winning mare by Roy consigned by Live Oak Stud, Agent, went to Vicente Portaro, Agent, for $55,000 to top the final session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2008 Fall Mixed Sale. The bay mare, in foal to High Fly, is out of Newhall Road, by Dixieland Band.

Aggregate rises 10.3% over second session of 2007

Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale continued in resilient fashion on the second day with 146 lots sold for 17,428,000 guineas at an average of 119,370 guineas and a median of 86,000 guineas and a clearance rate of a very healthy 82%.

Southern Halo mare tops first open session of Fall Mixed Sale

For the session, 150 horses sold for a total of $824,100, compared with 144 horses bringing $1,004,400 in the corresponding session last year. The average price was $5,494 compared with $6,975 in 2007, while the median price was $3,000 compared with $5,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was 30.5%; it was 32% last year.

Aggregate up 3.6% on first session of 2007

The opening day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale got off to a strong start in Newmarket on Tuesday with a daughter of Oasis Dream topping the days proceedings at 500,000 guineas. 132 lots were sold for 15,078,000 guineas at an average of 114,227 guineas and a median of 80,000 guineas. The sale has been shortened from four days to three this year making direct comparisons with last year difficult, but the average on the opening day was down only 10% when compared with the sale average at the 2007 renewal and the median exactly the same.

Buy back rate 53% as average declines by 34.9%

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company’s 2008 Fall Mixed Sale opened on Monday with a Consignor Preferred session that saw generally subdued trade. For the session, 108 horses brought a total of $1,979,600, averaging $18,330 with a $12,000 median price. The buyback percentage was 53%. Last year, in two Consignor Preferred sessions, 256 horses grossed $6,848,700, averaging $26,753 with a median price of $20,000. The buyback percentage was 49.1%.

The Arqana Arc Sale held at Saint-Cloud on Saturday night saw a 25% increase in average over last year.

With a 22% smaller catalogue than 2007, the overall turnover showed a decline of 16.4% from €4,285,000 to €3,829,500.

Sale aggregate declines by 40% overall

The 2008 Goffs Million Sale closed on Wednesday with major declines in all indicators. Over the three days 444 lots sold from 592 offered, with 25% led out unsold. The aggregate was 40% down on 2007 at €32,353,000, from €53,851,000, and the average registered a 34% decline to €72,867 from €110,350 last year. The median was down by 37.5% to €45,000.

The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Yearling Sale continued on Tuesday with a 40% decline in aggregate from last year. Fasig-Tipton reported 155 of 254 yearlings offered as sold for a total of $2,768,300. The average price declined by 24.8% to $17,860 and the median declined by 16.3% to $9,000. The RNA rate jumped from 21.5% in 2007 to 39%.

Overall 171 horses were reported as sold from 264 offered. The average price declined by 33.3% to $16,277, but the median was unchanged at $10,000. The buy-back rate was 35.2% against 32.7% last year.

€500,000 Galileo colt tops first session

The Goffs Million Sale got underway on Monday with, as predicted, trade at a lower level than in recent years. Overall, 151 lots sold from the 200 offered, an RNA rate of 24.1%, against 13.8% in 2007. The aggregate declined from €17,482,000 last year to €10,813,000 and the average tumbled by 33.6% to €71,609. The median saw a 28.6% decline to €50,000.
